Gail
Prosser has been a resident of
Albuquerque, Bernalillo County,
since 1975. She received her
undergraduate degree from UNM in
1982 and her Juris Doctor from UNM
Law School in 1985.
Gail
began her career as an Assistant
District Attorney under District
Attorney Steve Schiff in 1986. After
a brief time in Metropolitan Court
prosecuting domestic violence and
DWI cases, she was promoted to
prosecuting felony cases in the
Property and Narcotics Division. Due
to hard work and proven ability in
the courtroom she was quickly
promoted to Senior Trial Prosecutor.
Most
of her 12 years as an Assistant
District Attorney were spent
prosecuting the tough and difficult
cases in the Child Abuse Division
and the Violent Crimes Division.
While fighting hard in the
courtroom, Gail always worked within
the constitution and New Mexico
statutory law and never had a case
overturned on appeal.
During this time she used her
knowledge and expertise to train
junior DAs in trial skills. She also
taught basic law concepts to cadets
at the Albuquerque Police Academy.
After 12 years at the DA's office,
she chose to form her own firm and
successfully developed a criminal
defense practice.
Two
years ago Gail was appointed by the
New Mexico Supreme Court to serve on
the Supreme Court Committee that
reviewed and revised Uniform Jury
Instructions that are required in
all criminal jury trials. The work
of this committee is vital to ensure
that the Jury is instructed
correctly on the law they will use
to decide the case.
Both
as a prosecutor and a defense
attorney she has remained dedicated
to representing the people of
Bernalillo County in the courtroom,
where the Constitution
and the law are not just theoretical
ideals but where they touch
the lives of real people.
Because of her experiences as both a
prosecutor and a defense attorney
Gail has acquired a unique set of
skills and perspective of fairness
and impartiality that is of
overriding importance to the
judiciary. Her knowledge comes from
years of working on the toughest and
most demanding cases. In recent
years she has devoted her life to
the law.
As
your Judge, Gail will use her
experience and knowledge gained from
hundreds of trials and thousands of
cases on both sides of the
courtroom, to decide legal issues
and conduct trials fairly and
impartially with the end result
being justice for all involved.
